Mayor Rahm Emanuel is reaching out to leaders in the business, philanthropic, sports and entertainment communities to raise $4.5 million he says is needed to beef up anti-violence programming.
A source tells Crain’s the mayor spent much of the past week talking to executives about donating funds that would allow 2,000 more young people into programs that keep them off the streets. (The programs already reach 3,500 Chicago kids.)
The measures come as his friend and former boss, President Barack Obama, makes plans to visit Chicago to address the issue of violence.
