When President Barack Obama earlier this month acknowledged his support for gay marriage, he said his position on the issue had evolved over time. The nation’s CEOs could be forgiven for thinking, “What took so long?”
As of 2011, 60 percent of Fortune 500 companies offered benefits such as health and dental insurance to their employees’ same-sex domestic partners, according to Human Rights Campaign, a Washington-based advocacy group. 
Here’s a look at what Illinois’ 10 largest publicly traded companies offer.

White House stuns city by pulling plug on G8 in Chicago; Emanuel releases statement: The White House, not City Hall, made the bombshell decision to pull the G8 summit out of Chicago, multiple sources are reporting. Mayor Rahm Emanuel issued a statement earlier this afternoon wishing President Barack Obama and other world leaders well. He added that hosting the NATO summit “(still) is a tremendous opportunity to showcase Chicago to the world and the world to Chicago.”
